Reduce signs of aging
The antioxidant vitamins E and C work together to protect your skin from environmental harm.
These two vitamins are stored in the cells of your skin. The number of these vitamins in your skin decreases when it is exposed to pollution or sunshine. If you don’t replace vitamins E and C, your skin becomes more vulnerable to injury, which can contribute to premature aging.
Vitamin C also aids in the formation of collagen in your body. Reduced collagen synthesis causes wrinkles and other aging symptoms.
Mangoes can have anything from 1,000 to 6,000 international units of vitamin A. Vitamin A-rich foods have photoprotective properties, which means they help minimize sun damage.
May reduce risk of skin cancer and other cancers
Polyphenols are substances that plants naturally produce. Mango includes the polyphenol mangiferin, which works as an antioxidant. The largest concentration of mangiferin is found in mango kernels, seeds, and peels. This chemical is also abundant in the leaves, stalks, and bark of mango trees.
There is some evidence that mangiferin can lower the risk of some forms of cancer, such as:
- cancer of the skin
- breast cancer
- cancer of the colon
- cancer of the cervix
More study is required to properly comprehend its impacts.
Mangiferin reduces skin cancer induced by UV radiation in mice by blocking an enzyme called extracellular signal-regulated kinase.
