The reason that the health value of coconut oil is so widely discussed is that many of the claims made about it stem from research. This study was made on the advantages of medium-chain triglycerides by a woman called Marie-Pierre St-Onge. Coconut oil does contain more MCTs than other fat sources, however, St-studies Onge’s were performed using a designer oil containing 100% MCTs. Only 13-15 % of regular coconut oil contains.

Some research has indicated that coconut oil can be helpful for bad cholesterol, however other studies have failed to distinguish between coconut oil behavior and other saturated fats. That led to a warning from the American Heart Association about it.
